PNOY Rating Continues To Decline

President Benigno "Noynoy" S. Aquino's net satisfaction rating continues to decline. That is according to the latest survey released by the Social Weather Station (SWS) conducted this June 2011.

In November 2010, Aquino's rating is at +64. It plummeted to +51 in March 2011, then further declined to +46 this June.

The study also reveals that most of those dissatisfied with the President are women, those in Class D, NCR residents, and some parts of Luzon. He continues to enjoy high ratings in the Visayas and Mindanao Area.

Is Facebook Safe?

According to research studies, Filipinos are known to be one of the most active Facebook users in the world. In fact, we are not only active users, but we are one of the most active in terms of uploading pictures and videos.

While many people get hooked on using social networking sites as a way of interacting to others, finding long lost friends, and sharing their thoughts, it is also quite alarming that the number of social network-related crimes and violence is rising.

Recently, a Filipino actor-director, Ricky Rivero, has been stabbed a couple of times by someone whom he only got acquainted with in Facebook. This, along with other "unheard" stories, make up a long list of the bad effects of Social Networking Sites, especially to the kids and the young people.

While we can't really stop people from registering on these sites, may we take heed of the below basic precautions:

• Never post important personal details that you don't normally give to everyone (Bank Details, Cellphone Numbers, Credit Card Numbers)

• Accept only Friend Requests that you personally know. Do not accept friend requests just because you have a common friend.

• Do not just click forwarded links.

• As much as possible, persons allowed to view your profile/page should only be those people listed on your friends list.

• Never chat with someone whom you do not personally know.

These are just some of those basic but helpful tips we can follow to avoid, if not minimize the harms done by social networking sites to users.

After battling with several complications, veteran actor Paquito Diaz, 73, is confirmed dead on March 3, 2011. He died in his home in Daraga, Albay.

Paquito Diaz, brother of Romy (another veteran actor) and father to son Joko, is well-remembered for his antagonist portrayals on most of Fernado Poe Jr.'s movies in the 70's to 90's.

Fashionable Nursing Scrubs

Being a complete novice with regards to surgical and medical terms, I was a bit confused when my brother, who is based in the United Kingdom, has emailed me and asked me where he could buy nursing scrubs. Though the hospital where he is currently employed provides one, he said that it is always good that he has an alternate scrub on his own.

He went on to explain that nursing scrubs, together with cotton surgical scrubs, are those suits that medical practicioners, particularly nurses and nursing assistants, wear while on duty. Needless to say, they should always look neat and nice whenever assisting patients- but then, neat and nice should not mean you could not be fashionable.

These days, there are nursing scrubs that are trendy and cool to wear. There are also cotton surgical scrubs that have nice prints and can fit the character of the one wearing them.

I told my brother that there will definitely be cheap scrubs for men that are sold here in the local market, however, I am not so sure if these are authentic.

Angelo Reyes Is Dead

This came as a total shock, I had to stop and say to myself, what in the world happened?

Early this morning, I received a text message from a colleague who told me Former Armed Forces Chief of Staff and National Defense Secretary Angelo Reyes died (or rather, committed suicide) at the Loyola Memorial Park, Marikina City.

Angelo Reyes had a gunshot wound in his chest and was proclaimed dead on arrival at the Quirino Memorial Medical Center. He was 65 years old.

Earlier, his name is included as one of those who have allegedly misused the funds of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, along with former Major General Carlos Garcia.

Bus Explosion Along EDSA-Buendia

It is confirmed!

A bus has exploded today, January 25, 2011, along EDSA-Buendia Northbound. MMDA, thru its official twitter account, reports that the Makati Ambulance, Firetrucks, PNP, Bomb Squad, are now on the scene.

Unconfirmed reports from various twitter accounts say that there are at least 7 bodies injured due to the incident.

Ten people were hurt in an accident involving one of the escalators of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) system at the MRT Ayala Ave. Station in Makati City on January 18, 2011.

Two days later, on January 20, 2011, smokes came in beneath the cars of an MRT train when the train brakes malfunctioned. Several people were injured when the passengers panicked to get out of the train.

And you expect people to be happy and just accept the government's approval of the LRT/MRT Fare Hikes?

Getting Ready For My Own Website

I'm contemplating on the idea of finally getting my own website, instead of my current free site from blogspot.

But please don't get me wrong. I have been using blogspot for at least three years and I have loved its simplicity better than wordpress. In fact, whenever possible, I think I will still maintain this free site even if I will be able to acquire a new paid website.

A lot of blogger friends have actually adviced me that though maintaing my site on blogspot or wordpress is perfectly fine, they say that I could attract more visitors (visitors=traffic=money), if I get web hosting service for my own website.

There are lots of Web Host providers that I saw in the online market, however, based on my research, it is not that easy to just get any of them. Of course, you must know and understand the different web host types to find out which one is most suitable for your need.

Hostage Taking in Makati

Less than three months after the infamous hostage taking in Quirino Grandstand, Manila, Philippines, another hostage-taking is said to be happening now in Makati City, Philippines.

GMANews.tv reports that prior to the hostage-taking drama, the suspect allegedly shot at least two people along Evangelista Street, Brgy. Bangkal, Makati City.

After the shooting incident, the gunman fled to a nearby building and is said to have taken some people as hostages. As of the moment, police authorities have arrived in the area.

Makati City Mayor Junjun Binay (son of former Mayor and now Vice President Jejomar "Jojo" Binay) is also spotted in the area.

The injured victims are now being treated at the Ospital ng Makati.

Sometimes I couldn't help but envy my brother who has landed a very great job with a fat salary (and other perks to boot) as a Computer Programmer in one of the top emerging Call Center Stations in the city of Manila, Philippines.

A friend has emailed me a few days ago asking for my opinion on what would be a nice take-home giveaway for her mother's 70th birthday celebration.

I gave out two criteria to help her out. I said to her that we have to:

1. identify the types of visitors who will receive the giveaways;

2. determine the budget allocated per piece.

She said that most of the visitors would be her mother's friends and peers, and that we don't have a problem on the budget because her brother (who is in overseas worker) would take care of the costs.

I suggested to her that we may only opt to give giveaways to ladies (men don't make a fuss of giveaways and tokens, anyway).

Have you ever noticed those seemingly excess materials that protrude outside vehicle mirrors? Well, many people might find them a bit excess design to our cars but actually, these materials do have great functions!

I found it out during our most recent trip to the countryside last May 2010 to visit our old folks. Apparently, the Sports Utility Vehicle, or SUV, that we are riding on does have these Rain Guards installed on the windows.

According to our driver, these Rain Guards, or Wind Deflectors are very much useful especially while you are traveling during windy or rainy weather conditions. Rain Guards ensure that excess raindrops are being blocked before they reach the windows, that's why it is very much helpful for drivers to still get a clear view outside the vehicle.

This was proven when we got back to the city because while we were travelling back to the city, a heavy rain has approached us in the expressway, and the rain guards proved to be very efficient in keeping a clear view from outside the vehicle. As we all know, travelling during bad weather conditions is a bit risky especially when you can't see clearly from outside.

How To Control The Crowd

It is the month of May and we are now getting ourselves busy in church in preparation for our International Missions Convention in July 2010. This year, we are targetting about 500 to 800 attendees who will participate in the conference.

One of the main preparations we are doing is how we can set-up an effective crowd control system during the participants' registration which will take place in the morning of the conference. Although there are some who are registering early via the internet, most of the participants are registering on the first day of the convention.

The initial idea is to set-up barricades that will help to control the flow of traffic. Of course, it has already been proven during our previous conferences that barricades greatly help in the traffic flow, so we would still be using the same on July.

Aside from that, a group member suggests that we use stanchions. Wikipedia defines stanchions as portable posts that help to manage lines or queues. We oftentimes see these on banks, payment centers, government agencies and food chains, and are actually very much effective in managing customer lines. Some examples are the retractable belt stanchions and the velvet ropes.

We can actually make a customized barricade or stanchions, however, we can also opt to purchase durable ones at stores and even purchase via the internet. After all, we will still be using these when we conduct other conference or conventions.

Bakflip: A Good Partner In Business

During the year 2009, my brother and I have started to conceptualize on putting up a resale business (delivery) of school and office supplies. And as we have already had a good number of prospective clients, it seems that we will be in for a good run.

The thoughts and the ideas are sometimes easy to come by. However, the hard part comes with the actual setting up of the business, including the equipments that we need to purchase.

One good example is the plan to buy a delivery service vehicle. I wanted us to buy a delivery truck, but my brother is encouraging me that a pick up truck is much better. He advised me that we really don't need a big truck just at the moment since we are just starting out with the business. But then, purchasing a pick up truck would mean that we still have to modify it by purchasing a durable tonneau cover. Tonneaou covers are more popularly known as truck bed or pickup bed covers.

Tonneau covers are extremely useful on our planned business because we are delivering goods that require extra care from rain, dust, etc. We have asked some friends, and they recommend a Bakflip pickup cover. Sure enough, when I tried browsing in the internet, I read that there are a lot of good, positive comments about bakflip covers.

Well, there are still a lot more to do and prepare for our business. It is our hope that everything will work out just fine for it.

Going organic is definitely the "in" thing these days, as people are starting to become more health-conscious with what they do, what they wear, and what they eat.

This is actually due to the fact that people are concerned with the many new diseases and ailments caused about by the chemicals that are unconciously being taken into our bodies along with our food.

How does this happen? Well, due to advanced science and technology, researchers and scientiests are finding ways to speed up the growth process of our farm animals. This involves giving them chemicals and other artificial nutrients. With this, when the meat are converted for our food consumption, there are big chances that we also intake the chemicals into our body system.

As a result, negative reactions happen inside our bodies, and may cause development of disease and sickness.

But the good thing is, as I have mentioned on my first line, people are becoming more health-conscious and are now choosing organic vegetables, organic fruits, and organic meats for their food choices. This way, there little chances that harmful chemicals are being taken into their body systems.

For example, there are now certain farms that grow animals (like beef, cattle and poultry) the "organic" way. This means that they are providing natural lifestyles or habitat to the animals, and that they allow them to grow in using the natural life cycles. This ensures that the final consumers who buy the meat products are safe from unconsciously taking artificial chemicals and substances in their bodies.

It is about time that all of us consider going organic in our own lifestyles. This is good for the environment; and this is definitely good for all of us.

One of the best things that you can get when you are regularly employed with a good company is that the company gives you better benefits than when you are just a casual or contractual employee.

In our company for instance, we started to receive clothing allowance, rice allowance last year. These are in addition to the basic 13th month pay that we regularly receive yearly as mandated by law.

This year, talks have it that our company might provide Life Insurance benefit to all regular employees who have been with the company for at least 5 years. This is actually a very good benefit considering that some of sectors in our company are having a bit of high risk jobs because they are working outside of the office in the streets most of the time. In the unlikely event that something happens to an employee, the Life Insurance will be there to ensure that the surviving immediate family gets some financial aid and benefits.

Employees do have high hopes that the company will push this thru, especially now that the Administration Group and the Human Resource Group who are in-charge of this issue are now starting to ask for Life Insurance Quotes from different insurance companies. We all hope that before the end of the year, this plan will finally materialize.

A co-employee who used to work in Australia even commented that in there, their company even gives Funeral Insurance to all regular employees. I haven't yet heard of any local company here in our country, but if ours will offer one, then that will surely give all of us a great boost!

After all, we, the employees, are the lifeblood of the business.

After a series of frequent headaches, I decided to subject myself for a physical medical check-up last February. The result revealed that I now need to seriously consider wearing eyeglasses. As the optometrist has advised, poor eyesight results to headache.

I have been working part-time at a relative's construction site for nearly ten years now. A part of my job is in sourcing reliable suppliers of office supplies and other necessary items. This year, they are venturing into sub-contracting some road construction repairs in the Metropolis. However, part of the basic requirements to be an accredited sub-contractor is that the company should have the basic safety tools when working on the road. These basic tools include traffic barricade, traffic signs, and others.

Since last week, I have been trying to look for the right company who can supply good and durable road safety tools. Many first-time mothers who have just given birth to a child find it very difficult in dealing with their bodies' physical conditions. Of course, who would be glad, that everytime you look at yourself in the mirror, you see a fat woman with stretchmarks on their bellies, and with oversized breasts?

Perhaps this is one of the reasons why women who have just given birth have very low self-esteem and are easily irritated. They also tend to become over reactive and jealous with their husbands for fear that their husbands might be able to get attracted with ladies who look more beautiful and more sexy than their wives.

Aquino And Villar: Tie on Latest Pulse Asia Presidential Survey

It is statistically a tie-up for Noynoy Aquino and Manny Villar for first place on the latest Pulse Asia Survey for presidential preference.

The result shows that Aquino got 37% voting preference while Villar got 35%. Conducted last January 22 to 26, 2010, the survey has a margin of error of +/- 2.

Erap Estrada is at far third with 12%, while Gibo Teodoro and Bro. Eddie Villanueva came in next at 5% and 2%, respectively.

Meanwhile, Senator Mar Roxas is the clear leader for the Vice Presidential race. Roxas got 47% voting preference. Senator Loren Legarda follows at 28%, while Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay came in at third with 13%.

Surely we've heard the arguments a hundred and one times before. People are explicitly saying that they wouldn't vote in favor of Gibo Teodoro because he is an administration candidate (in other words, closely associated with president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo).

But the man stood his ground. And though the surveys have continually put him on the bottom end among Noynoy Aquino, Manny Villar, and Erap Estrada, the Presidential Forums conducted by various organizations and media networks have introduced unto us a man who have clear visions and a man who knows the details of proper governance.

A Perfect Gift

A close relative is tying the knot on the 25th of February, and my wife and I are now contemplating on what to give them as a gift on wedding day. Since they are moving into a new place, my wife mentioned that our gift should be those things that they would really need to start up their new life in their new home together.

Yesterday, we learned that they will be ordering a new queen size bed, so my wife suggests that we may better give them some Down Comforter Sets to complement their new bed.

Now all we have to know is the color motiff of their bedroom so we can choose two or three sets from among the Hotel Bedding Sets that we saw on the Internet yesterday.

Guys, I hope you can all give me some insightful advise.

My boss has resigned from our company a few months ago when he decided to setup his outsourcing company in his hometown in India. Actually, he was already telling us about his plan for the last two years, but we never expected that he is very serious about it.

Now here's the hard part. He told us thru email that business is really doing good, and that he is offering me and my other two colleagues to come and join him in India.

It is a bit hard for me to decide because I really am not that familiar with the Indian culture. Anyway, for a start, my boss suggested that I do my research thru internet, and he told me to frequent visiting and reading the articles in Indian Chat, a website that gives lots of information about India, including the recent news about it.

Also, knowing that we Filipinos are people who love to communicate regularly to our love ones, he informed us that it is not so much difficult to communicate, and send message to our relatives and friends because there are a lot of providers that offer Free SMS in India.

A Free SMS service is very important because this helps so much in cutting costs and expenses if ever we are able to work abroad. With so many relatives, friends and loved ones to communicate with, this free SMS service will carry a load off our budget.

A Military plane crash in Cotabato City leaves 8 people dead, according to news reports.

The plane came from Cotabato City and was supposed to be headed to Zamboanga City when the plane encountered trouble and flew in zigzag mode before it crashed a few minutes after take-off near the Urban Poor Housing Subdivision in Cotabato City.

The team of military officials killed on the crash was headed by Lieutenant General Mario Butch Lacson of the 3rd Air Division.

Hair Pins For My Girl

My wife and I are excited today.

We noticed last night that our 8 month-old baby girl's hair is finally long enough for a simple makeover. A relative actually suggested that we bring her to a kiddie parlor and have her first hair cut, but we decided that it is not yet a proper time for her to have a haircut.

In order to manage her hair, we agreed last night that we will bring her to the mall and we will buy some Hair Pins. There is this boutique that sells quality but affordable hair care and hair-styling products.

As a surprise simple gift (and my wife does not know this yet), I also negotiated with an online shop that sells hair styling products via the internet. They sell quality hair pins and hair clips, but among those, I ordered a beautiful butterfly hair clip for my baby girl, and swarovski bobby pins for my wife.

Press Secretary Cerge Remonde was pronounced dead at 11:51 a.m. today, January 19, 2010 at the Makati Medical Center due to heart attack.

Remonde was rushed to the hospital at past 11 a.m. after he was found unconscious in his Bel-Air residence in Makati.

Remonde was Press Secretary to the President since February 2008. Prior to that, he was in-charge of the Presidential Management Staff now headed by Secretary Hermogenes Esperon.

Maguindanao Mass Murder: Where Is The Logic?

The death toll on the infamous Maguindanao Mass Murder on Friday (November 20, 2009) has now reached 52 as of Wednesday noon today, GMANews reports. This was confirmed by Chief Superintendent Felicisimo Khu, head of the Task Force Alpha, which spearheads the initial probe and retrieval operation for the victims.

Meanwhile, an International Watchdog has named the Philippines as the World's Most Dangerous Place for Journalists to work, due to the inclusion of at least 12 journalists among those whose bodies were recovered.

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) states that, "under the current government the Philippines has become the most dangerous place in the world for media workers. At least 74 journalists have been killed during its eight-year tenure, yet the [Arroyo] government has not acted to end the culture of impunity. At last count, only four convictions had been secured.”

The question that still rings in my mind to this day is that, "Where is the Logic in Killing People just for the sake of Politics?"

Several bodies dead bodies were now found following the alleged abduction of more than twenty people last Monday in Maguindanao Province. Reports say that a convoy led by the wife of Maguindanao Vice Mayor Datu Ismail "Toto" Mangudadatu was seized by about 100 men last Monday, November 23 while they were on their way to file the Certificate of Candidacy of Toto Mangudadatu who is running for Governor.

Why should we resort and wait for somebody else to make a pushcart and teach the children?

If I am not mistaken, the Philippine Constitution provides that a priority of the government budget should be allocated for the education of Filipino children. However, every start of the school year in June, we always hear stories that we lack classrooms, teachers, and school materials to adequately teach our young.

We are grateful for people like Efren Peñaflorida who has devoted themselves in doing good for others.

But isn't it that the government be the one taking charge of our Literacy Program?

Under The Tree

Back when we were yet small children, we used to have a small Rope Hammock installed under a big guava tree in our frontyard. It has always been a delight for us to be playing and chatting along under that old guava tree.

However, when our parents decided to renovate the front lawn, we were left with no option but to remove the tree.

T0day, whenever we take a time off and go to the beach, I never pass the chance of laying my body in one of those colorful Fabric Hammocks placed under the coconut trees alongside the seashore. There were numerous occassions where I just lay in a hammock to watch the sun set. It was truly a very relaxing experience. Those are rare times wherein you just lie there and not think of any worries and cares. Moreso, those were opportunities to meditate and remember the Lord's goodness in our lives.

Hammocks are very popular especially in tropical countries because they make good accessories on beaches. There are various types to choose from. There are Rope Hammocks, Fabric Hammocks, and there are also Weave Hammocks, any of which can also be placed outside our houses for great relaxing experiences whenever we want or feel the need to- and this is what we actually plan to have in our ancestral house.

We are negotiating and are actually intending to buy the lot nearby our house. Since we intend to convert our ancestral house to become a vacation place, we want to convert the extra lot as a garden extension. Among the immediate plans are to put up a small nipa hut (a house made of wood and nip). My father, who has a green thumb, would of course love to put on some trees and ornaments. Also, we are alloting a specific place to put on a Rope Hammock because we also want to go back to the time when we were children playing under the big old guava tree.

Dealing With The Big "C"

Having dealt with two cancer cases in the family, I feel there is a need to share my views about what people should do when there are relatives or close friends who have contracted the dreaded Cancer disease.

First of all, Cancer, according to wikipedia, is a class of diseases in which a group of cells display uncontrolled growth (division beyond the normal limits), invasion (intrusion on and destruction of adjacent tissues), and sometimes metastasis (spread to other locations in the body via lymph or blood). These three malignant properties of cancers differentiate them from benign tumors, which are self-limited, and do not invade or metastasize. Most cancers form a tumor but some, like leukemia, do not. The branch of medicine concerned with the study, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of cancer is oncology.

As there are no sure medical treatments yet developed in arresting the disease, a lot of people who suffer from cancer are left, most of the times, hopeless with their cases.

If you have a relative, a family member, or a friend, who is suffering from Cancer, my simple advise is this: Be Physically, Emotionally, and Spiritually Present on their side.

1. Cancer patients tend to decrease their strength and immunity. Cancer tends to paralyze the body, and so it is but necessary that there is always somebody to assist the patient in almost everything that they do.

Assist the patient with delicate concern.

2. Due to the fact that a cancer patient thinks he/she already has a hopeless case in surviving the disease, his/her emotions will definitely be unstable. Always be there to support him/her. Strengthen his/her emotions and don't get affected when he/she turns his/her bad moods toward you. Be an understanding listener and advisor whenever a patient needs somebody to talk to.

3. There is hope, even when there seems to be nothing more! I like the saying:

God is too wise to be mistaken.
God is too good to be unkind.
When you don’t understand,
When you don’t see His plan,
When you can’t trace His hand,
Trust His heart.

There are things that our minds and our eyes could not understand. But the Lord is giving us an assurance that there is hope. We just have to rely on Him because He knows what's best for us.

Be an encourager. In times when you have to deal with Cancer patients, be the one to send the message that there is hope, because all things are possible with Jesus.

Pacmom Mommy Deonisia Pacquiao, mother of Filipino Boxing Icon Manny Pacquiao, doesn't want her son to fight in the ring once more after his bout against Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto last Saturday night at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada. Pacquiao made a convincing win via a 12-round bout. The referee stopped the fight before midway to the 12 round after seeing that Cotto will no longer be able to put up a good fight against Pacquiao.

Immediately after the fight, the whole world is clamoring for a dream match between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Junior. Both of them were named pound-for-pound king of the ring.

Mommy Deonisia prefers her son, Manny, to just retire and enjoy his life.

As for me, I daresay that it is better for Manny to fight Mayweather and win bigtime rather than for Manny to fight in the 2010 elections and lose bigtime.

Pacquiao has repeatedly said in previous interviews that he is running for a congressional seat in Sarangani Province come May 2010. This, he said, is due to his desire to help his countrymen.

In 2007, Pacquiao bid for a congressional seat in General Santos City, but lost with a big margin from incumbent congressman Darlene Antonino-Custodio.

It's been a long while since we've had our Picnic Basket full of goodies. I think the last time we've had a real grand time together in a park was since four years ago at a small town in Batangas, Philippines where the park is overlooking Taal Volcano.

Yesterday I had a sudden urge of asking my family to go on an out-of-town picnic holiday. This was after I heard a very beautiful song in the radio in the bus while on my way home.

The song is entitled, 'What A Wonderful World', and the lyrics goes like this:

I see trees of green, red roses too

I see them bloom for me and you

And I think to myself what a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue and clouds of white

The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night

And I think to myself what a wonderful world.

If always feels good whenever we are in touch with nature. It gives us a sense of knowing that God is indeed faithful in providing us with a very good habitat. The trees, the flowers, the waters, and the skies, all creates a peaceful feeling deep within our souls.

A friend who is a tourist agent has suggested a couple of must-see parks, and we are planning on taking a long weekend vacation on the first week of December. For now, I am on the hunt for quality Picnic Baskets because our old one is already battered.

Johnny Delgado is Dead

Reports are now circulating in Tweeter and other social sites that Filipino actor Johnny Delgado is dead at past 1 pm this afternoon, November 19, 2009.

Delgado, a great actor and husband of director Laurice Guillen, was diagnosed of lymphoma, a type of cancer, sometime in 2008.

He was 60 years old.

During his showbiz career, Delgado won six awards and at least 19 nominations. You may see his various achievements and movie works here.

The Mexican Traditional Way of Cooking

It is not surprising that different races (or nations) have their own different set of materials and equipments used in cooking their food. While now, technology has provided us with gas stoves, electric stoves, ovens, electric grills, etc., it is still interesting to learn about how our ancestors are able to cook their food.

In the Philippines (South-east of Asia), for example, tribes were able to cook rice using bamboos. In fact, this method of cooking is still being thought during youth campings. They also have what they call 'kalan', a tripod made of clay wherein twigs and woods are being placed in order to create fire for cooking.

A Mexican friend shared to me that during the early days (hundred or even thousand years ago), their Mexican ancestors were using chimineas to cook their food. I have to admit to him that I have never seen one in my entire life, and so he was eager enough to surf the internet and sent me a sample picture.

Just like the 'kalan' from the Philippines, the original chiminea is made of clay. This is because clays are easy to find in Mexico. Historical stories tell us that whenever a chiminea breaks down, cracks or falls apart, the people will just have to go to river banks and scoop clays to repair the damage.

Because of their beautiful and artistic designs, chimineas became popular export products in the United States and in the United Kingdom because aside from cooking, they are good ornaments outside the house and in the gardens.

However, since clays easily wear off, manufacturers are now introducing chimineas that are made of iron. A very popular example is the Leaf Cast Iron Chiminea.

With the introduction of new equipments (stoves, ovens) used for cooking, the chiminea is now instead used as a Portable Fireplace outside houses. They are perfect whenever groups would want to gather together and share the night away. What a weekend that was for the Filipino.

While basketball still remains to be the most played sports over the country, boxing has clearly made its way to be one of the most watched game in our television-proper credits given to Manny Pacquiao, who recently won over Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto via a technical knockout in Round 12.

How sweet it is for the nation to see our champion being accorded the highest degree of respect in the world of boxing. Considered as the reigning pound for pound king, Pacquiao is said to have written history to become the First Boxer to win seven (7) Titles in different weight division-something no one has ever achieved.

And not only has Pacquiao become triumphant. The Filipino spirit is once again uplifted by the triumph of its most prized fighter on Sunday morning of November 15, 2009.

As of today, the fate of Gorres is uncertain.

If elections were held today, 44% of Filipinos would elect Liberal Party's Standard Bearer Noynoy Aquino III as president of the Philippines. This is according to Pulse Asia's most recent poll on Presidential Preference. The nationwide survey was conducted on October 22 to 30, 2009.

Getting our clan together for a night would be a very rare occassion. This is because it is very difficult for us to meet our schedules for a particular day. This year, however, we are hoping on having a family/clan reunion come Christmas day at our ancestral house, so we have started on getting our schedules fixed since June 2009. As most of our cousins and relatives have confirmed that they are coming, our parents, who are living near the clan's ancestral house, have also started fixing up the place and checking on how we can best accomodate our relatives, specially those who are coming from abroad.

One particular issue that we still have to resolve is that since the start of September, an abrupt change in the climate has happened in our area. We are experiencing cold weather, so we are contemplating on setting up an Outdoor Heater in the gardens. This is to make everyone feel comfortable even as we sit and relax outside the home.

As you may have read in my previous posts, barbecues are always a part of our dinner menu, so we really will have to set up grill and do our cooking outside. Also, since we are expecting many relatives, it would be most practical if we will be setting up the dinner table outside, where there is more space for everybody. A Patio Heater every table must have to be set up in order to ensure that everyone will be kept warm during the occassion.

Patio Heaters may be a little bit uncommon in our area, but really, they are a good use specially in countries where they have a very cold weather. But with the unexplainable climate changes happening around the world, the cold weather has suddenly come unto our region, and we have no choice but to adjust and make sure that everyone among us deserve a comfortable accomodation.

There are various types of Patio Heaters, and really, I was surprised to see that they are actually not that expensive. In fact, there are types that are sold even for less than 200 Dollars in the internet. So why must we suffer from cold weather when we can turn the heat on and enjoy a very precious moment with our families?

Christmas holidays is almost at hand!

Christmas this year will be a little different in our home because one Family will be spending their holidays with us. They are distant relatives from down south, and my father has invited them to come and join us during Christmas.

It is customary for us to be giving gifts to visitors, so we have been thinking of what we could present to them. They are a family of musicians, so we were contemplating on giving them with a gift that is somehow related to what they do, and what they like.

My brother suggests that we give them a musical instrument that is not ordinary, so we came up with giving them Gongs.

Gongs are musical instruments which are found and are still being used in South East Asian countries. These are instruments that take the form of flat metal discs and are being played by hitting them with mallets.

We first witnessed how gongs are played when we went to one of the provinces of Mindanao in the Philippines last year. Their cultural dances and music are always accompanied with the playing of Gongs. And really, the musicians played the instruments well, accompanied by the distinct tribal dances by the natives.

There are, of course, various types of gongs. One particular variant that I like is the Meditation Gong. True to its name, a Meditation Gong is a perfect instrument in creating a harmonious sound that blends well with the sound of nature. I can truly say that the sounds bring peace and relaxation in your thoughts.

The illustration above is an example of a Woodstock Desk Gong. The metal disc is suspended on air from a black wood stand. This, to me, can fit well as an additional accent inside our homes, or even outside in the gardens. This is a perfect gift to people who love collecting items from different cultures.

I believe the Gong would be a wonderful gift for our visitors come Christmas. Truth be told, I might also buy one for myself.

In the year 2000, I was a fresh graduate struggling to find my place in the corporate world. A suspected Abu Sayyaf group has reportedly beheaded their kidnap victim, Gabriel Canizares, in Jolo Island early Monday morning, November 9, 2009.

Canizares, principal of Kanague Elementary School in Patikul (Sulu), was kidnapped while on board a passenger jeepney on October 19, 2009. Police report states that prior to the beheading, the bandits reportedly got angry after getting only 150, 000 out of the 2 million pesos demanded ransom.

I Am A Barbecue Lover

Lock Your Valuables

My brother is furious.

His son came home yesterday from school telling him that he lost his mobile phone for the second time. They left their bags in the Locker and proceeded for their afternoon basketball practice in the gymnasium.

However, when they returned after three hours of practice, they saw that two Gym Lockers were forcibly opened. The school security still has no clue over the incident which caused to a loss of about five mobile phones and other valuables.

It is actually the second time since my nephew lost his mobile phone. The first incident also happened at school in the canteen. Because of this, my brother is now coordinating with the school administration so that better securities may be enforced to avoid theft among students' valuables.

My brother suggested that they purchase new School Lockers and totally replace the old ones since some of the security locks are malfunctioning, causing robbers to easily destroy and open the lockers.

We do hope that the school administrators will look into it with much concern. After all, this will not only help secure the students' valuables, but the teachers and faculty staffs too.

The title will, of course, directly tell you what I am trying to say to anyone. I should have liked to entitle this as "A Few Good Men", however, I think it is more fitting these days to say directly what you mean to say.

Yes, I am one of those Filipinos who are urging Manolo Quezon III to run for Senator in the coming 2010 elections.

For those who are not in the know, Manolo actually comes from the lineage of the Philippine former president Manuel L. Quezon.

I got to know about Manolo whenever, as a child, our parents would turn on the TV and watch the news. By and by, Manolo Quezon would be a resource person as an analyst on Political and electoral issues.

Today, I am a regular visitor of his blog, The Long View, because that is where I gain exhaustive insights about Politics and Current Issues. But, perhaps one of the things that cut him above the others is how he puts his thoughts and analysis into action.

I am witness as to how he spearheaded a lot of efforts to help the victims of Typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng. His twitter account provides a blow-by-blow account on how every single Filipino can do his share to help the victims of the calamity.

And so now, without any apprehension, I am calling, together with the others, for Manolo Quezon to run for Senator.

We have a Few Good Men who can spearhead change and improvement in the system.

A Bell In The Clouds

I really like the story of the movie A Walk In The Clouds featuring Keanu Reeves. It is a story of a US Army Sergeant Sutton(Reeves) who met a beautiful Mexican-American university graduate whose family owns a vineyard in the Napa Valley. Apparently, Victoria Aragon (Mexican-American) was pregnant and Sutton offers her to introduce him to his family as her husband.

Apart from the story, what really captured my attention is the beauty of the setting, Napa Valley, a farm of grapes which they call, The Clouds.

I just love to imagine living in gardens like these wherein you get to see the beauty of God's creation everytime you open your eyes. I also imagine a beautiful house with a Farm Bell attached in one of the house posts.

I don't know about you, but having a Farm Bell or a Dinner Bell gives a peaceful and harmonious feeling inside of me, whenever I hear the sound of it. And if you think this is used only for decorations, you may get wrong. A Dinner Bell acts to signal family members who are working in the gardens/fields to come home for lunch or dinner.

Also, you might find it surprising that a Farm Bell does not really cost that much. In fact, you can even find great buys when you browse the internet. Some online stores offer other great selection of beatifully crafted wind chimes that are perfect for your country houses.

It is my hope that someday I would be able to have a house in the gardens or in the fields. Surely, I shall be looking forward to the day when I and my family will just stay out in the gardens and enjoy the beauty of nature, with the hope that someone from the house will ring the farm bell to announce that we need to get back to our house for a bountiful dinner.

Folks, expect a Stormy Halloween this weekend as typhoon Santi (International Name: Mirinae) threatens to move closer to the Philippines' area of responsibility by Friday night until Saturday morning.

Storm Signal Number 2 has already been raised in Metro Manila and many nearby provinces, so people who are visiting on the Cemeteries are advised to take caution and bring tents, umbrellas, or raincoats.

People who are planning to travel to Central and Northern Luzon are also advised to take their trip early Friday to avoid possible heavy rainfall caused about by the typhoon.

Meanwhile, it has been declared that November 2 (Monday) is a holiday, in commemoration of the All Souls Day.

Our Old House

My Dad is a retired teacher. Bust aside from teaching and farming, he also loves doing carpentry and house improvement works. This is why it is no wonder that he always want to watch the show "This Old House"; a television hit that teaches step-by-step procedures related to carpentry, home renovation, among others.

One particular episode that proved to be very useful for our own "Old House" was when they featured about Gutter Protection. The idea of protecting gutters is actually new to us because for all we know, it is the gutter that protects our house from unwanted water leaks.

But as we watched and listened at the program, it became clear to us about the importance and significance of installing gutter protection, because by protecting the gutter, you eliminate the chance of getting leaves, twigs and dirts to be stuck on your gutters. In turn, rain waters can easily flow out. And since the waters do not stand still in the gutters, you also prevent mosquitoes from breeding in it.

The news came as a big surprise to everyone.

Last week, Senator Loren Legarda has announced that she is no longer running for President, but instead run for Vice President under the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) of business tycoon Eduardo "Danding" Cojuangco, Jr.

With this development, everybody seemed and conditioned that Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero will finally emerge as the NPC's Standard Bearer for the 2010 Presidential Elections, forging a Chiz-Loren tandem, and quite a team to beat.

And just when everyone is awaiting the big formal announcement for the tandem, Senator Escudero announced Wednesday morning today, October 28, 2009 via a press conference in Club Filipino that he has quit as a member of the NPC.

Escudero cited three reasons of his decision:

1. First, that anyone aspiring for the presidency should not be part of any group.

2. Second, that anyone who wants to become president would not be able to perform his job if his hands and feet are tied and his eyes are blindfolded.

3. Third, that he could decide freely on the role he would play in the upcoming elections if he does not belong with any group.

Needless to say, this unexpected move caused quite a stir in the political landscape.

Escudero did not mention, however, if he is running for President next year.

Cable Television is out. What's new? Direct Sat TV is definitely today's the "in" thing.

It was my cousin who actually opened up the idea that it is far better to subscribe for a Direct Sat TV rather than the usual cable tv packages being offered in our area. This conversation was brought about because we are discussing about the upcoming boxing match between Filipino champion Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao and Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto on November 15, 2009 at Las Vegas, Nevada.

We remember the last time that we were watching the match between Manny Pacquiao and Oscar Dela Hoya sometime in 2008, our viewing was suddenly cut-off in the middle of the match due to a defective cable line along our street. While the line was immediately restored, we surely missed a part of the match.

It is for this reason that my cousin has been nagging us to try checking out the various Direct Sat TV Packages being offered in the internet. We have checked and it seems that they are actually offering good packages. I think they offer at least six (6) different packages, so consumers can choose what's best for their need and for their budget.

Change Address

I felt a little sad over the weekend when I found out from one of my relatives in my hometown that our address is being changed courtesy of an ordinance recently passed by our local village leaders. Needless to say, the local government has collected a fee for the purchase of address plaques that will be distributed to each house bearing the new address numbers.

Now I just don't think it is a good idea that they still collect a fee because it is on my understanding that they already collect taxes out of people's income and businesses. What's more, I am just sad because our address which has been our address since I was born has been changed. It is just that I felt that a part of my childhood has been taken away from me.

Anyway, the new address plaque was delivered to us last Monday containing, of course, our new house number which is now #202. The plaque is made of tin can and painted white. So you could just imagine that what they delivered is only a basic type of plaque.

My mom doesn't like the idea of placing that plaque in our house post for fear that the tin can-made address plaque will easily accumulate rust. Further, the basic address plaque looks awkward when placed in our house post.

We made contact with the village chief to ask if it is alright that we just purchase our own customized address plaque (bearing our new house number), and he said that it is fine with them. We just have to make sure that the address number is the same. We have decided that we shall put the new address plaque in our lawn garden so that visitors and postmen can easily locate our house. With this, we also need to ensure that we buy one that is rust-proof and does not easily depreciate due to changing weather conditions.

I hope we find the best plaque, and hopefully I will begin to love our new house number. After all, no matter what our address is, I still have my family to share our new memories together in our new address.

Today I am blogging once again about the best kitchen equipments that any housewife (or house husbands who love cooking) will want to have.

Cry Baby

Tiring but Fun.

That was how I felt last Sunday when we brought our baby to the mall for her first photo shoot. We brought her to Pic-a-boo, a photo studio that specializes in taking child photos.

I am not sure how many branches they have here in the Philippines, but they have one at The Block, SM North EDSA, and one at The Atrium, SM Megamall.

We went at about 3 in the afternoon but were told to return by 5:30 pm because they have a lot of customers (so if you are planning on taking your child for a photo session, be sure to come earlier).

It was a tiring experience because we were on the streets as early as 10 am, coming to church first, then we had lunch at a nearby food and bakeshop, before finally proceeding to the mall.

The real fun came when we finally proceeded to the photo studio because our baby started to cry when we put on the costumes. So you could just imagine how the photographer tried her best to capture the best pictures out of our baby.

Anyway, she finally succeeded taking beautiful shots even if our baby kept crying.

But you can't blame babies from crying, anyway. They just cry because they want (and need) to cry. You can't force them to smile when they don't want to. All you get is the real expression of what they feel at that particular moment.

I couldn't help but give as much sympathy that I can for my friend who called me last night and told me he was declined from getting a car loan. Now he has been desiring to get himself a car since last year but could not purchase one, so he opted to get it by loan.

Sharing The Night Together

This morning I was awaken by a very beautiful song coming from my brother's room. His radio was playing Dr. Hook's "Sharing The Night Together". It kind of makes me imagine and think with the idea of asking my special someone for a dinner date.

Now we've been to countless dinner dates on restaurants and grills but as far as I can remember, we have never tried having dinner date in the gardens- that is to say, even outside our house.

I've seen in the movies how lovely is it having dinner in the gardens, when both of you will just eat a nice dinner and drink wine and stare at the stars above. There was even a particular movie I saw wherein a couple was having dinner using a Fire Pit Table, so you could just imagine them eating outside in the gardens on a table with a fire in the center illuminating the night. Oh, I've long been dreaming of doing that!

A Time For Compassion

Even as the 2010 election in the Philippines comes nearer, political issues, discussions, and bickerings are temporarily put on hold to give way to the more important issue of the past weeks- help and compassion so much needed for the victims of typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng which put the nation in a state of calamity.

Typhoon Ondoy brought so much rainfall in the country and put most of part of the Metro Manila in deep water. Many people died, while houses, properties and business establishments were badly damaged by the flood.

A week after, and even the nation can even rise up from Ondoy's wrath, another typhoon, Pepeng, brought havoc on the northern part of Luzon. Landslides occured on the mountainous parts of the region; water dams were forced to release water that caused heavy floods in the nearby provinces, and crops and livelihood resources were badly damaged.

Indeed, this is a time for the country of the Philippines to stop fighting about politics and corruption, but instead focus all the efforts into finding the best ways possible to help the victims of the calamities.

This is a time for Compassion and Action.

And every Filipino is expected to give it.

Big Is Beautiful

I have been celeberating christmas with my family for over thirty years now. Each year, we return back to our hometown in Nueva Ecija, Philippines at least three days before Christmas day.

One will have to understand, of course, that in the Philippines, Christmas season begins on September 1 (start of the ber months-September, October, November & December) and ends on the first Sunday after New Year (where catholics celebrate the Feast of Three Kings).

This is so because the moment the calendar turns to September, shops and boutiques in the malls start to decorate the establishment with Christmas trees and hang Large Christmas Ornaments on the ceilings, while Christmas carols continuously play on radios and CD players.

Even in the respective houses, the people begin to clean up and hang lanterns and christmas lights on the windows. No matter how festive the celebration is, I have to admit, though, that these types of decorations put in houses become so usual that you can't find any more excitement in seeing them.

Today I am thinking that maybe I should ask my mom if we could somehow change the way we decorate our house. I think that maybe we could get the idea from those malls and decorate our house with Large Christmas Ornaments for a change. But instead of putting those on the ceilings, we can try putting big decorations outside in the garden.

I am sure the idea would be a big hit especially when one would want to impress his neighbors and visitors during Christmas. You could just imagine if you have life-size, Large Christmas Decorations just like what is shown below:

Kids will definitely love to hang around with dear old santa:

Let the fun and excitement of Christmas be seen in your house decorations. This year, you can show to your visitors and neighbors that Big is Beautiful on Christmas.

But above all, still the most important thing is, may we always remember that Christ is still the reason why we celebrate Christmas. It is on this day that God our Father has given his begotten Son unto the world to save us and give us eternal life.

I Bid for a Mac Book Pro

It must have been love.

I was drooling over when I chanced upon seeing the above image of the 24K gold plated Mac Book Pro by Apple while browsing the internet a few days ago. Needless to say, I literally fell in love with the design.

I have been blogging for almost two years now, but it is only in March of this year when I decided to try and get more serious with making money on line. However, my problem is that I am only using a desktop computer at home, so I can only go and browse business opportunities when I get home from the office. This proves to be a very big limitation because oftentimes, other people get ahead of me in getting the bigger and better opportunities.

On one particular instance, I was not able to commission a big project because my family went on an out-of-town trip, and I only got the chance to check on my emails when I we went back three days after. By that time, the offer has already expired and was given to another bidder.

To address my problem, I have decided to go and look for a computer laptop; and that is when I saw the Mac Book Pro. A friend who is knowledgeable in computer gadgets informed me that I can actually bid online if I want to purchase one.

He shared that everytime he wants to purchase new gadgets, his first option is to search online and look for a unique auction site that allows people to bid for brand new products at considerably low prices. What is good about this auction site is that it offers the newest products, which may or may not yet be available when you personally go on shopping centers. My friend even shared that he was able to purchase his new PS3 online thru bidding at an unbelievably low price.

Now I have never tried bidding for products, and so this will be my first time to try. My friend is willing to orient me, so I am geared to bid (and win!) for a Mac Book Pro tonight.

Labor Department Gives Jobs To Ondoy Victims

The Department of Labor & Employment has extended its arms to help the victims hit by the typhoon Ondoy on September 2009. The typhoon caused so much wreck and havoc when most part of Metro Manila was flooded, causing hundreds of death victims, while houses and business establishments were deeply submerged in water.

Labor Secretary Marianito Roque said that a short-term and emergency wage employment program will provide flood victims of at least 15 days work, mainly in de-clogging operations, and in helping with the reconstruction of damaged infrastructures such as school buildings and drainage systems.

Roque said subsistence workers who lost their income and livelihood sources due to the calamity will be prioritized especially those whose properties were totally damaged and those formerly engaged in a particular craft or skill.

The program will be implemented in Metro Manila, Central Luzon, and Calabarzon area.

“It will serve as a bridging mechanism aimed at helping the beneficiaries cope while seeking to recover and regain their livelihood and income sources from the destruction brought about by “Ondoy.” Roque further states.

I had an extra time to shop yesterday in a mall nearby when the famous song "Hark Now Hear The Angels Sing" started to play. Instantly, people beamed with a smile on their faces on the thought of Christmas day, and started singing along.

The store owners also started redecorating their boutiques with christmas decors, lanterns and christmas lights. On one side of the mall, there is a life-size nativity scene on which the shoppers are getting pictures at.

The Department store has also set-up a dedicated space wherein you can purchase christmas trees, christmas balls, christmas lights, lanterns, santa claus figures, and nativity sets. I went looking for the nativity sets because I have long wanted to purchase and give my mother one as a christmas present. This is because when we were children, my mother would always set up a nativity set which is only made up of cardboard or hard paper. That is why I want to surprise her with a beautiful set which is made of plastic or fiberglass. The price, however, is expensive, so I didn't buy. Instead, I thought I'd better go and check for other shops, or I might as well search online in the internet.

There are a couple of online shops that sell nativity sets, but of course, you should go for the one that sells the best products at affordable prices. You can also pick your choice of nativity scene because there are a lot of options to choose from. Sets vary from six, ten, and fourteen pieces. There are life-size pieces, while there are also miniature ones.

I'm considering the life-size pieces because the set would be perfect for the outdoors, and will definitely go well on a garden setting.

A Night To Remember

We have approached the month of October again, and our church is devoting the whole month for our yearly evaluation (of the past year) and planning (for the coming year). Part of the main event that we are organizing in 2010 would be the three-days Kids Camp for our Sunday school students in our Children's Church.

We are targetting a beach resort in Subic, Pampanga, and because the place would be very near the sea, we give good review on the security, since we are expecting about thirty to fifty children whose ages range from 4 to 12.

Mornings will be devoted to divided sessions and teachings, while in the afternoon, we are planning for group competitions (cheering, banner-making and other games). For the evening, we are planning to conduct a 1-hour worship service. We are giving much thought on what we are going to do right after the worship service because we know that the children wouldn't want to go to bed and rest. We are contemplating on doing an outdoor activity in the grounds, and thought that placing an outdoor fire pit would be very lovely. The cozy fire coming from the fire pit will surely attract the children and make them want to gather together.

The idea of using outdoor fire pits was introduced to me last March 2009 when our office conducted a night-out seminar in one of the finest resorts in Puerto Galera. The event organizers prepared a fun team-building activity after dinner in the grounds, with each group finally commencing and evaluating the activity as we are gathered in the fire pit.

This is why I thought of suggesting into our Kids Camp directress that we must have an outdoor fire pit when we have the Kids Camp next year. There are outdoor fire pits available for sale in the internet, such as what is shown in the picture below:

This type of outdoor fire pit is very much ideal, especially to our Sunday school students because they actually contain lovely designs that can attract children.

Other than having them come and gather around the fire, we are also planning to set-up a place to cook barbeques and hotdogs on sticks-an activity that is ALWAYS a hit to children, and even to us, teachers. Surely, we look forward to an exciting Night to remember for our Kids Camp next year.

In Search for a new Mobile Phone

My Motorola mobile phone has totally been damaged last Friday. I went to the service center last Sunday and the crew told me that they wouldn't be able to repair the damage. It is with much regret that I wouldn't be able to get the pictures, including the phonebook memory.

Anyway, I still can get the memory card and the sim, so I really got to check out for a new mobile phone for my globe number.

There is this new mobile phone, modu, which is holding Guiness' record for the world's lightest phone at 1.5 ounce.

The phone will soon be released in the Philippines and is to be exclusively distributed by Globe Telecom.

I got a surprise email from my former boss whom I haven’t heard of for about two years. Her family had migrated in the United States in 2006, and they have not come home in the Philippines since then. She informed me that her family has acquired a decent lot in the United States and they are on the process of building a house of their own. Knowing her, I’m sure the house, including the garden landscapes would be meticulously designed.

Looking Forward To My Myrtle Beach Vacation

We as a family always look forward to our yearly vacation. This is a time wherein we set aside at least five days just to be together and to maintain the close ties within us. This year 2009, we had the pleasure of going to one of the Philippines' (and probably one of the world's) best beaches in Surigao del Sur, Mindanao. Aside from its clear waters and white sand, we had sumptous meals of crabs, shirmps, and fresh fish.

A close family friend based in the US has just come to visit our parents in the Philippines and having known our family tradition, unexpectedly invited us to go visit them in the US and have a vacation at the various Myrtle Beach Resorts near their residence in South Carolina.

We have never been to the United States, so naturally, the invitation gave a lot of excitement to all of us, so we begin to dream of booking into one of the nicest Oceanfront Myrtle Beach Resort there is in the area.

I have made some research in the internet and I found out that the Myrtle Beach Resort in South Carolina has been selected the Best Family Beach by the Travel Channel. This must probably be because there are a whole lot of activities waiting for the whole family to enjoy when you get to go there. The Myrtle Beach Resort is close to Amusement Parks, Water Parks, Museums, Restaurants, and Golf courses.

We're still mapping up our plans, because we have to prepare lots of travel documents, but I am now looking forward to having my vacation in South Carolina. Of course, I am expecting a lot of expenses, so I am now looking for ways to earn extra income. :)
