LTFRB has already approved a fare rollback for jeepneys effective Monday, February 23, 2009 for Metro Manila, Region 3, and Region 4.
Minimum fare will now be 7 php for the first 4 kilometers;
and 1.40 php for every succeeding kilometers.

The government is eyeing another 50 centavo fare reduction in public transport, particularly jeepneys and buses.

Sana nga eh bumaba na ulit ang pamasahe at maging 7php na lang ang minimum.
Malaking tulong ito lalo na sa mga estudyante at sa mga manggagawa.
Kahit papaano, mababawasan ang budget na kailangan nilang i-allot para sa pamasahe. Kung may .50 cents na maibabawas sa isang minimum na pasahe, ibig sabihin, at least eh 1php ang matitipid kada araw. 5 php kada linggo.
Aba! Sabi nga nung ka-board mate ko dati, 'Eh kahit magtutuwad ka buong maghapon, mahihirapan kang makapulot ng limang piso!'

Jeepneys, cabs, buses reduce fare--LTFRB
Temporary rollback effective December 15, 2008
Amid the continuing decrease in oil prices, cab, jeepney, and bus drivers and operators have agreed to a provisional fare reduction nationwide, effective December 15, the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has announced.
In a meeting Wednesday, bus operators, led by the Provincial Bus Operators Association of the Philippines and Integrated Metro Bus Operators Association, agreed to a P0.50 rollback for the first five kilometers of regular buses in Metro Manila or from PP9.50 to P9, and a P0.10 cut for the succeeding kilometer or from PP1.95 to P1.85, the LTFRB said Wednesday.
While airconditioned buses in Metro Manila will retain the P11 fare for first five kilometers, operators agreed to a P0.15 reduction for every succeeding kilometer, or from P2.35 to P2.20.
Airconditioned and regular provincial buses agreed to a P0.05 cut for every kilometer. For airconditioned buses, this will be from PP1.70 to P1.65 and for regular buses, from P1.40 to P1.35, the LTFRB said.
Jeepney groups, led by Piston and Pasang Masda, will cut fare by P0.50 for the first four kilometers and P0.10 for every succeeding kilometer, the LTFRB said.
In Metro Manila, this will mean a return to the P7.50 fare before the series of oil price increases were effected.
The P10 add-on fare for cabs has also been removed, the LTFRB said, adding that the agreement was reached with the Association of Taxi Operators in Metro Manila and the Philippine National Taxi Operators Association.
The removal of the P10 add-on fare stemmed from a petition filed by the National Council for Commuters’ Protection following the continuing decrease in oil prices.
But the LTFRB said the fare reductions would be temporary and would be implemented for at least three months.

Fuel Prices Going Higher and Higher
For about how many months now, there seems to be an unstoppable upscale of Gasoline and Diesel price not only in the Philippines, but also in most part of the world.
In the Philippines alone, gas prices rise every weekend by at least a peso per liter. And economists analyze that it could go much higher still in the coming months.
Thus, militants groups are again on the outrage and continues to urge the Philippine Government to do something about it; while the LTFRB has recently approved an increase on transportation fares.
On a positive note, however, motorists are experiencing less traffic because some of the motorists prefer riding on public vehicles rather than using their own private cars. People also tend to flock to the MRT and LRT rather than in jeepneys, buses, and AUVs because of the fare increase.
Recent study shows a different trend in the Automobile Business.
The sale of 2nd hand cars have declined significantly.
Buyers also prefer having the diesel-run cars rather than those vehicles using gasoline.
Also, vehicles with smaller engines (thereby using smaller volume of gas).
In any event, we all hope that this fuel crisis will finally end. Not unless in the future, we'd want the following video to actually happen in our country.
