It is statistically a tie-up for Noynoy Aquino and Manny Villar for first place on the latest Pulse Asia Survey for presidential preference.
The result shows that Aquino got 37% voting preference while Villar got 35%. Conducted last January 22 to 26, 2010, the survey has a margin of error of +/- 2.
Erap Estrada is at far third with 12%, while Gibo Teodoro and Bro. Eddie Villanueva came in next at 5% and 2%, respectively.
Meanwhile, Senator Mar Roxas is the clear leader for the Vice Presidential race. Roxas got 47% voting preference. Senator Loren Legarda follows at 28%, while Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay came in at third with 13%.

Why Not Gibo?
Surely we've heard the arguments a hundred and one times before. People are explicitly saying that they wouldn't vote in favor of Gibo Teodoro because he is an administration candidate (in other words, closely associated with president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo).But the man stood his ground. And though the surveys have continually put him on the bottom end among Noynoy Aquino, Manny Villar, and Erap Estrada, the Presidential Forums conducted by various organizations and media networks have introduced unto us a man who have clear visions and a man who knows the details of proper governance.

And so my question is: Why Not Gibo?
We go back to the old argument, that we do not want him because he is associated with Gloria.
Then my follow up question is: Why then, despite the fact that he would want to become the Admin's standard-bearer, do we like Bayani Fernando?

Pacquiao Vs. Mayweather
Pacmom Mommy Deonisia Pacquiao, mother of Filipino Boxing Icon Manny Pacquiao, doesn't want her son to fight in the ring once more after his bout against Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto last Saturday night at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada. Pacquiao made a convincing win via a 12-round bout. The referee stopped the fight before midway to the 12 round after seeing that Cotto will no longer be able to put up a good fight against Pacquiao.
Immediately after the fight, the whole world is clamoring for a dream match between Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Junior. Both of them were named pound-for-pound king of the ring.
Mommy Deonisia prefers her son, Manny, to just retire and enjoy his life.
As for me, I daresay that it is better for Manny to fight Mayweather and win bigtime rather than for Manny to fight in the 2010 elections and lose bigtime.

Edu Manzano Is Lakas VP Bet
It is time to dance The Papaya!----------
DILG Secretary Ronaldo Puno announced today that the Lakas-CMD-Kampi is fielding Actor Edu Manzano as its Vice Presidential Candidate for the 2010 National Elections. He is running alongside (Defense Secretary) Gilbert 'Gibo' Teodoro who is gunning for President.
Manzano, a former actor, has previously held public office as Vice Mayor of Makati City, and as Optical Media Board (OMB) Chairman. Aside from acting, he is also the host of the popular ABS-CBN network game show, Game KNB?, where the song and dance 'Papaya' has become a very big hit.
As of today, expected tandems for the coming elections will be:
Gibo Teodoro & Edu Manzano for Lakas-CMD-Kampi
Noynoy Aquino & Mar Roxas for Liberal Party
Erap Estrada & Jejomar Binay for PMP
Manny Villar (from the NP) is reportedly persuading NPC member Loren Legarda as his Vice Presidential candidate.

Manolo Quezon For Senator
The title will, of course, directly tell you what I am trying to say to anyone. I should have liked to entitle this as "A Few Good Men", however, I think it is more fitting these days to say directly what you mean to say.Yes, I am one of those Filipinos who are urging Manolo Quezon III to run for Senator in the coming 2010 elections.
For those who are not in the know, Manolo actually comes from the lineage of the Philippine former president Manuel L. Quezon.
I got to know about Manolo whenever, as a child, our parents would turn on the TV and watch the news. By and by, Manolo Quezon would be a resource person as an analyst on Political and electoral issues.
Today, I am a regular visitor of his blog, The Long View, because that is where I gain exhaustive insights about Politics and Current Issues. But, perhaps one of the things that cut him above the others is how he puts his thoughts and analysis into action.
I am witness as to how he spearheaded a lot of efforts to help the victims of Typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng. His twitter account provides a blow-by-blow account on how every single Filipino can do his share to help the victims of the calamity.
And so now, without any apprehension, I am calling, together with the others, for Manolo Quezon to run for Senator.
We have a Few Good Men who can spearhead change and improvement in the system.
Manolo Quezon, I daresay, is one of them.

Noynoy Aquino's Statement on September 9, 2009
I received an info today that Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III will be issuing his long-awaited Official Statement tomorrow at the Kalayaan Hall of Club Filipino at around 7:30 in the morning, September 9, 2009.
Noynoy is being asked by various groups to run for President in the 2010 elections. His name became popular right after her mother Cory's death earlier this August 2009.
Let's wait and see until tomorrow if he is up to the challenge.

Mayor: You know, my son is very much capable to do the job. I believe in what he can do for the development of our beloved city.

Pulse Asia's Survey on the 2010 Elections
Pulse Asia releases its February 2009 Ulat ng Bayan survey for the 2010 elections.
To summarize, the survey states that if the elections were done on February, the following Presidentiables will make it to the top:
"Kabayan" Noli De Castro (19%)
"Chiz" Senator Francis Escudero (17%)
"Erap" Former President Joseph Estrada (16%)
"Mr. Sipag at Tiyaga" Senator Manny Villar (15%)
For the Senatoriables, the survey's top 5 are:
Jinggoy Estrada
Pia Cayetano
Mar Roxas
Miriam Santiago
Frank Drilon
While those who belong to the top 5 are old-timers in the senate, the survey also include "newcomers" in the list of can-be-senatoriables, including Edu Manzano, Korina Sanchez, Joe De Venecia, and Willie Revillame (yes, you've read it right. Willie is on rank 17-23).
Relative to this survey, I have previously posted a blog to give emphasis on the importance of funds, in other words, money, for the upcoming 2010 elections. As pointed out, since the Presidential Race seems tight and we don't expect a runaway winner, money and machinery will definitely play a big role for the winner.
Columnist Manolo Quezon, in his blog entry, In This Corner, provides a comprehensive analysis on this Pulse Asia February 2009 Survey. Manolo points out that while the Administration candidates are doing badly in the survey, the local allies will still play a big role in the final stretch. Which is true! So the Opposition could not yet stage a sound of victory at this moment. They have got to take care of their local allies.
To conclude, I would like to copy on The Professional Heckler's take on the Pulse Asia Survey:
"Vice President Noli De Castro topped the latest Pulse Asia survey with a 19 percent preference rating. He was followed by Sen. Francis Escudero, 17 percent, Joseph Estrada, 16 percent, Sen. Manuel Villar, 15 percent, Sen. Loren Legarda, 12 percent, Sen. Manuel Roxas II, 7 percent, and Sen. Panfilo Lacson, 6 percent. Pera At Pulitika
Napag-usapan na rin lang ang pera, umani ng batikos si Senator (and aspiring 2010 Presidential candidate) Manny Villar sa isang komento na binanggit niya sa isang interview. Sabi ni Villar:
"If you can't raise P1 billion, why even run?"
Reaksiyon naman ng ibang pulitiko (at aspiring presidentiables din):
Mar Roxas: people would elect the next president for the candidate’s platform of government and track record.
Chiz Escudero: it’s the people, and not money, that will elect a president.
Dick Gordon: "arrogant" statement.
In reality, tao pa rin ang pipili ng kanilang iboboto subalit kung iisipin, totoo namang malaking factor ang pera sa kandidatura. Sa nakaraang BARANGAY elections (emphasis sa salitang BARANGAY), may kilala akong nanalong kapitan na balitang gumastos ng humigit sa P500,000 para manalo. Kung sa isang maliit na yunit ng pamahalaan ay may mga taong handang gumastos ng ganoon kalaking halaga, hindi malayong kakailanganin nga talaga ng P1 bilyong piso para sa isang National campaign. In fact, sa airing time pa lang ng political campaign sa TV, gagastos ka na panigurado ng daang libong piso.
Ayon sa isang editoryal ng BusinessMirror,
While Villar’s remark may sound controversial, the reality is that finances will determine in large measure the outcome of next year’s election. In fact, Villar’s figure is the minimum amount required for a decent nationwide campaign, which is P2 billion to P3 billion, per Reuters’ estimate.
Those billions would go to building a nationwide political machinery up to the barangay level. Then the candidates would have to cover all the regions once the official campaign period starts next year. Campaign paraphernalia, such as streamers and handbills, as well as the all-important TV and radio ads, will substantially jack up the cost of running for the highest public office even more. And we’re not even talking of the money involved in surreptitious dagdag-bawas operations à la “Hello, Garci,” which the Commission on Elections (Comelec) swear will be a thing of the past—a situation fervently hoped for, but not necessarily believed.

At dahil nga dikitan ang labanan, sinabi ng ilang political analysts na pinakamalaking magiging factor ang pera at ang pagkakaroon ng "wide and loyal" network.

News Tidbits 2009
(Medyo) Tahimik ang Pilipinas ngayon. Walang masyadong ingay, maliban sa Right of Reply Bill ni Senator Nene Pimentel (na hindi ko masyadong naiintindihan at hindi ko na rin pinagtiyagaang intindihin) at sa pagkapasa ng Automation Budget para sa 2010 elections (na patuloy pa ring pag-aawayan dahil kabi-kabila ang siguradong magsasabing may dayaang mangyayari. Tingnan natin, kung magagamit na ang automation sa 2010 elections, panigurado na yung matatalong kandidato eh magsasabing "nadaya ako!").
Sikat si Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez. Aba'y big-time siya! Kung dati-rati eh Pangulo lang ng Pilipinas ang gustong i-impeach, ngayon, naka-file na ang impeachment complaint niya sa Kamara. Ang problema lang, katulad din ng complaints laban kay GMA, may pag-asa ba namang umusad ang kaso? Kilalang kaalyado ng First Couple si Gutierrez, dahil classmate siya ni FG Mike Arroyo sa Ateneo De Manila College of Law. In fact, hindi pa nga napag-aaralan ang kaso eh nagsabi na si Mikey Arroyo na hindi siya tututulan niya ang Impeachment. Pati si DOJ Secretary Raul Gonsalez eh nagpahiwatig na mahirap lumusot ang kaso.

Magtataka ka na lang, ano na ang nangyari doon sa mga naunang issues, katulad nang Alabang Boys Drug Case, WB Corruption Charges, Euro Generals (sabi sa news, hindi na raw kakasuhan si General Dela Paz kasi ibabalik na daw yung kinuhang pera-pwede pala yun?), Fertilizer Scam, etc.
Para tuloy gusto kong sabihin sa sarili ko: "Hindi ka pa ba nasanay?".
Kung nasusulusyonan lang ang mga nakikitang iregularidad. Kung napaparusahan lang sana ang mga dapat maparusahan. Kung kahit paano sana ay nagkakaroon ng pagbabago at kaunti mang pag-unlad ng bansa. Siguro ay tataas kahit paano ang Trust Rating ng Pangulo. Subalit dahil dito, patuloy na hindi maganda ang resulta ng surveys. Ayon sa pinakahuling tala ng Pulse Asia, halos kalahati ng mga Pinoy ang walang tiwala kay Pangulong Arroyo.
Kung wala na talagang pag-asang magbago ang patakbo ng gobyerno, sana naman ay magkaroon ng pagbabago sa susunod na mga lider ng bansa.

Miniminimaynimu
In less than two months, we are entering into 2009 and as I have tackled in a previous blog, the Presidential race fiasco is becoming a hit on the news lately.
The latest SWS Survey , conducted on September 2008, puts VP Noli De Castro ahead of the pack at 29% while Senators Manny Villar (28%), and Loren Legarda (26%) closely followed.
Malacañang palace issued a statement recently enumerating their choices for the 2010 elections-which includes- De Castro, Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro, Senator Richard Gordon, Chairman Bayani Fernando of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, and Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte.
Earlier, Villar and Fernando signified their intention to run for the Top post. Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay also recently informed the media that he is also eyeing for the post. (Now, wouldn't that be a match?- Binay vs. BF in another arena).
With a lot to choose from, and a lot more days to go before the 2010, we will yet to see a lot more changes on who will finally submit their Certificates of Candidacy for the Presidential race (needless to say, there will also be a lot more ober-da-bakods in play).

As I was saying, what if… we hold an election and nobody came? Or everyone did but everyone abstained for lack of choices? I mean, seriously.
It isn’t like we have a huge pool to make a choice from. Do we choose the lesser evil of the bunch– like we have the last 20 years or so? Do we make a stand here and now and say, you want us to vote— give us better choices. We don’t want plain vanilla. we don’t want chocolate! we want coffee mint walnut ice cream!
Are we prepared to draw a line in the sand and say— we want better?
What do you think?

I must admit I am an advocate of exercising the right to suffrage-encouraging a lot of the people, especially the young, to register and vote, however, the question is still bugging my mind: Am I prepared to draw the line and say I want a better choice?
Do I vote and choose the "lesser evil" among those vying for the post?
Or do I stand and say: "I don't want any of those. I want better."?
Now, I'm thinking.
The latest SWS Survey , conducted on September 2008, puts VP Noli De Castro ahead of the pack at 29% while Senators Manny Villar (28%), and Loren Legarda (26%) closely followed.
Malacañang palace issued a statement recently enumerating their choices for the 2010 elections-which includes- De Castro, Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro, Senator Richard Gordon, Chairman Bayani Fernando of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, and Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte.
Earlier, Villar and Fernando signified their intention to run for the Top post. Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay also recently informed the media that he is also eyeing for the post. (Now, wouldn't that be a match?- Binay vs. BF in another arena).
With a lot to choose from, and a lot more days to go before the 2010, we will yet to see a lot more changes on who will finally submit their Certificates of Candidacy for the Presidential race (needless to say, there will also be a lot more ober-da-bakods in play).
However, there is this post from Cocoy in Filipino Voices.com which actually struck my attention:

Vote Wisely
A nice story on making the right choices during elections.

While walking down the street one day, a Philippine senator is tragically hit by a truck and dies.
His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.
"Welcome to heaven," says St. Peter. "
Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we're not sure what to do with you."
"No problem, just let me in," says the senator.
"Well, I'd like to, but I have orders from the higher ups. What we'll do is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity."
"Really, I've made up my mind. I want to be in heaven," says the senator.
"I'm sorry, but we have our rules."
And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell. The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him.
Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people.
They play a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and champagne.
Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly guy who is having a good time dancing and telling jokes.
They are all having such a good time that before the senator realizes it, it is time to go.
Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises...
The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens in heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him, "Now it's time to visit heaven."
So, 24 hours pass with the senator joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing.
They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns.
"Well, then, you've spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity."
The senator reflects for a minute, then he answers: "Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell."
So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell.
Now the doors of the elevator open and he's in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage. He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls from above.
The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulders."I don't understand," stammers the senator. "The other day I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there's just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What happened?"
The devil smiles at him and says, "The other day we were campaigning ...Today, you voted."
