Mamang Pulis: A Closer Look

WE SERVE AND PROTECT

Thus states the Philippine National Police' motto.

As students, we were taught with the notion that the Police are the protectors of the community. They're the ones who go after the bad guys. They're the brave who enforce peace and order.

In recent years, however, my personal orientation about the police started to change, primarily because the media is continually feeding us with significant information about various scandals involving the police.

The whole country was shocked to have watched a video presented by an investigative show about a Pasig cop caught in the act of using prohibited drugs inside the Police Station. A number of cops in Negros were recently suspended because they were drinking liquor while on duty.

Some other cases include the police caught firing their guns during new year celebrations, abuse of their authorities in the streets and in other public places, involvement by a former PNP chief on Jun Lozada's supposed abduction in the airport, the case of the Euro Generals, and just recently, the reported overkill of suspected carnappers along EDSA.

While the Philippine National Police continue to banner their motto that they Serve and Protect the community, these untoward cases seem to create distrust by the people on our police officers.

Sadly, when the people themselves don't trust our police, they wouldn't know where to turn to when they get involved in untoward incidents.

Though we all know that good cops still exist and do their duty well, our PNP should do a bold reform in their ranks. They must seek to let the trust of the people be restored onto them. Only then will they be able to accomplish their vision of working in partnership with a responsive community towards the attainment of a safe place to live, work, invest and do business with.

Pinoy T-Shirts

Pinoy Pasaway Series #4

Following the news that Dra. Vicki Belo already apologized over her "joke" on Boy Abunda, radio show host Jobert Sucaldito involved himself into the issue.

Good New, Very Bad News 2

Tag Watch features the full integration of a command center, a 24/7 hotline similar to the United States’ 911, numerous closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras that can rotate and zoom in by as much as 300 meters and police cars equipped with global positioning system (GPS) units.

Six policemen in Negros are in hot water for allegedly having a drinking spree inside their station.

Chief Inspector Rico Santotome said if found guilty, SPO1 Ramon Macaya, PO3 Noel Joquino, PO2 Edward Gayuma, PO1 Joseph Caballero, PO1 Gecel Dela Cruz and PO1 Jonjer Yap would be suspended for 15 days without pay.

“The inspecting team was surprised to see the policemen inside the police station drinking alcoholic beverages while in uniform, some of them in incomplete attire,” the official said.

Manny and Pie Calayan at Dra.

And The Heat is On!

Belo says:

“If you want to look like Piolo Pascual

and

Dingdong Dantes,

you go to Belo.

If you want to look like Boy Abunda, you go to Calayan."
(Piolo and Dingdong are two of Belo's endorsers while Boy is one of Calayan's endorsers).
********** Pero kahit na! Bad joke pa rin.**********

Glory Days of EDSA

For three days, men, women and children filled the streets of EDSA holding on frail hope. For those brief moments, they feared for their security, their lives, their future.

Rumors were spreading all over that the forces from the loyalists were coming in from the north to silence the cry of the people through bullets and shells. The prayers grew louder; anxiety filled the air.

From above, the citizens of Manila resembled ants swarming on the entire stretch of EDSA. Most of the streets were blockaded and trees were cut down to serve as makeshift anti-tank barricades. Curious civilians climbed the 25-ft. light posts to have a glimpse over the crowd. Along the curbs, women attended to the thirsty, hungry and the weary. Men stood vigilant and served as perimeter guards just in case loyalist troops decided to attack. Priests and nuns prayed and comforted people as they made their way through the population with rosaries at hand.

Tanks were on the other edge of EDSA, and the people had no hesitation to meet them with bare hands and prayers. Soldiers aboard the vehicles climbed out and were ordered to shoot. Most either shot in the air or were simply shocked at the amount of sacrifice ordinary people are willing to gamble. Tears rolled down their eyes as they were greeted with food and comfort from the rebels.

As Marcos proclaimed his presidency atop the balcony of the MalacaƱang, little did the remaining supporters realize that their would-be president was already arranging his plans for Hawaii.

This is the EDSA revolution – the peaceful cry for freedom.

********************

On that glorious year of 1986 in EDSA, the world witnessed the triumph of the Filipino.

Fast-forward to the present year, though, the country remained in its old self.
Or is it even worse?
********************

EDSA People Power proved the reality of God's words in 2 Chronicles 7:14:
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

We have, as a nation, humbled and prayed and searched for God's face. We have exposed corruption and evil in the society, and God heard from heaven. He forgave the sins of the nation. He removed the kings and rulers and have set up new ones. And He healed the pains and gave us a brand new beginning for the Nation.

But somewhere along the way, we lost-track and returned to our old-self.

Can we blame God? By no means! There is no way we can say, 'God! You didn't help us. God! you were wrong in choosing our new rulers!' No way, we can say that.

We have asked forgiveness and healing, and restoration in the land. But seems that we have not totally turned to God and asked Him to 'totally' rule among us. But rather, after seeing God do the changes, we have stopped and let the new leaders reign over us. Men and women who hunger for money, power, and still more power have started to penetrate the leadership of our nation. And since then, as a nation, we have never really returned to God.

As I see the situation today, I believe that there is so much hunger and thrist for change. Such was in the days of Marcos and Ninoy. The people are ready. And God is always ready and willing to give us another brand new start- but we've got to pray and ask Him to install the righteous rulers of this land.

Moral Ascendency: Righteous leaders who fear and obey the word of God. This is what the people clamor for. Again, the people are ready. And God's eyes range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him (2 Chronicles 16:9).

May He finally install the right rulers.
May He finally bring back the glory days of EDSA.
May He finally bring glory to the Philippines.

Circus Politics

Lapid is reported to run again for Governor of Pampanga, his previous position before becoming a Senator.

Grace Poe to run for Senator.

Grace who? Grace Poe. Anak ni Fernando Poe.

Nakoe, wag na poe. Sayang ka poe.

Fernando Poe is not Grace Poe.

May idadagdag pa ba akoe? Wala na poe.

Retired and Active men in uniform push Danny Lim for Senator.

Congressman Joc joc Bolante?

Bolante is being groomed to be a member of the House of Representa-thieves.

It's where you belong,
It's the place where you belong,
It's where you, you, you,
It's where you belong!

100

This is my 100th post.

So I will try to create a countdown- some sort of 100 things na sa palagay ko eh nangyayari sa Pilipinas, o sikat sa Pilipinas sa pangkasalukuyang panahon (parang iniisip ko tuloy ngayon, sana ginawa ko ito noong pang-sampung post ko pa lang):

2. Talamak ang graft and corruption.

3. Ckat na ckat ang txtng. Naging txting cptal of d world p nga ang pnas eh. Word of mouth ang unlitxt, unlimited, e-load, autoload, pasa load at all calls.

9. Laya na si Erap. Mahal na naman siya ng masa despite of his corruption and plunder charges. Erap for President in 2010?

Wow, men!

22. Sumikat na naman ang Pinas sa buong mundo dahil sa nag-issue ang World Bank ng mga lists of Philippine Companies na banned sa kanila on issue of corruption.

Nakakainis, as in.

29. Mababa pa rin ang sweldo. Mataas pa rin ang tax.

33. Bihira na ang pumapatok na Pelikulang Pinoy. Kung meron mang mga pinipilahang pelikula, malamang Hollywood-made.

Emo!

47. Bukas na ang UP Ayala Technohub sa Commonwealth Avenue. Maraming kainan, maraming opisina, maraming may trabaho.

55. Sikat sila Among Ed, Gov. Grace Padaca at Sonia Lorenzo. Magaling daw kasi sila; kaya baka raw tumakbo silang Senador.

Ano ba yung Blue Ray?).

58. Lumilipat ang mga taga-dos sa Siyete. Lumilipat ang mga taga-siyete sa Dos. Habang yung ibang laos na ayaw lumipat, nagtitiyaga sa Channel 5 at Channel 11.

59. Sikat pa rin at may following pa rin sila Manalo, Villanueva, Quibuloy, at Velarde.

Yung mga tipong Family First? Color of the Day!' Sabay banggit sa kulay ng damit mo.

68. Lalong nagiging magkamukha si Igan at si Arn-arn. Pero tinalo sila ni Mike at Mang Enriquez.

Huh?

78. Alive and kicking with comments pa rin siraul gonsalez.

Ha? What's that again?

80. Open for Business na ang NAIA Terminal 3. Sa Wakas!

81. Maraming corrupt. At yung mga kakaunting malinis, kadalasan, nagiging corrupt. Pero meron pa ring mga malilinis.

91. In addition to tukneneng, naka-balandra na rin sa bawat kanto ang mga nagtitinda ng calamares.

92. US-made ba ang damit mo? Baka naman UK? O Ukay?

EDSA 1 2009 Holiday

MalacaƱang announced February 23, 2009 a holiday for STUDENTS (only) to celebrate EDSA 1.

This was made through Proclamation 1728 signed by Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita.

Just wondering why the Proclamation limits the holiday only to students. When in fact, baka ang mga estudyante ngayon eh hindi pa nabubuhay noong panahon ng EDSA 1 (1986).

Anyway, I just thought that maybe History books should now include to teach students about EDSA 1, EDSA 2, EDSA 3. I'm just not sure if these are already included. But these should be. We do not want the young to neglect Jose Rizal and Andres Bonifacio, however, they also need to know and learn from Marcos, Ninoy, even Cory, Erap, etc.

Of Riders, Roads and Regulations

It was in the early years of the new millennium when motorcycles started to swarm over the streets of Metro Manila.

I can, in fact, assume that whosoever was the brainchild of promoting XRMs here in the Philippines would have taken a VERY big amount of bonus.

This happened primarily because people would want to at least reduce their cost of spending in transportation. Thus, the use of small motorcycles is a hit, particularly to the male workers and company messengers.

Rider friends told me that they actually save a lot since they started using motorcycles. Plus, of course, they would like to add the fact that using motorcycles is "iwas traffic dahil madaling sumingit sa pagitan ng mga jeeps/cars/bus".

And today, due to the continuing increase of people who purchase motorcycles, dealers make it easy for consumers to buy a unit in good credit terms. If my friend taxi driver is correct, he says that you can purchase and get a unit in the same day as long as you have a 10,000 php downpayment to give. And dealers do not usually do credit investigations. They ask only a minimal documents for proof of income (payslip, maybe, or other statements).

However, with the increase of riders on the Metro road comes the increase of motorcycle-related accidents. It is very alarming because in morning shows like Unang Hirit (gma) and Umagang Kay Ganda (abs-cbn), they report at least 2 motorcycle accidents per day.

I have a former high school classmate who was killed at her prime age of 20's due to a motorcycle accident. Her husband, who was driving, survived but is paralyzed.

An officemate once told me, "Hindi na ako gagamit ng sasakyang may dalawang gulong. Napaka-delikado. Which is true. Compared to cars and jeepneys with four wheels, motorcycles are prone to imbalance when you accidentally roll over a stone or a slump in the road.

In 2008, road authorities have already increased their regulations by requiring riders to wear helmets, and limiting only two passengers per motorcycle.

But seems it is still not enough, because a lot of accidents still continue to happen.

• I believe riders should be very well-educated on their responsibilities when using the roads. I have seen riders who speed up and try to race over cars and jeepneys. Some riders also do not want to follow regulations on the proper wearing of helmets. Others try to overload motorcycles-even trying to allow 4 passengers to ride.

• Is it the LTO who regulates motorcycle drivers? I hope they ensure that license applicants are well-educated on all road precautions and measures. I see a lot of young people (below 18 years old), especially in the provinces, who freely use motorcycles. Bad thing is, when they involve in accidents, you cannot apprehend full exercise of laws because they are below 18 years old. Sana rin walang nabibigyan nang lagay in exchange of giving Driver's License.

• MMDA should continue to tighten their watch on violators. Wala rin sanang humihingi ng lagay. Violators should be apprehended. Kahit na pulis o konsehal ng bayan, tanod o kung sinuman siya, if he/she is violating the regulations, should not be tolerated.

• A dedicated motorcycle lane in the streets or hi-ways? It may be costly. But if it saves lives, then why not?

Good News, VERY Bad News

Good News, VERY Bad News

Good News!

The government is eyeing another 50 centavo fare reduction in public transport, particularly jeepneys and buses.

The complete story >>>here

VERY Bad News!

Despite his negative reputation in Metro Manila, former agriculture undersecretary Jocelyn Bolante is being pushed to run for congressman in his home province in 2010.

The complete story >>>here

Aba'y naku naman. Jocjocjoc ba 'yan?!!!

Are You Ready?

If you were given 1 million pesos, what would you do with it?

We always here that question.

Some say, 'Oh, that's easy!. Will give 10% as tithes to the church, 10% to buy some stuffs, 20% I will give to my parents, 10% to my siblings, and the 50% will go to my bank account as my savings.'

We've seen lots of people winning the lotto, or winning lots of money in game shows, but most often, lots of those winners don't seem to be ready administering such amount of money.

The bible gives very interesting facts to support the idea that in the end times, the wealth will be transferred from the hands of the sinners to the hands of the righteous. Why? Because the gospel MUST be preached to all nations (Matthew 24:14). And in order to do this, we really need a lot of resources.

So that gives us a firm belief that believers will be blessed tremendously in order for them to support the works of the church.

But some may ask- 'Aren't the blessings and money already in the hands of the rich? How many christians belong to such groups as the elites and the rich?'

However, the bible speaks the truth. Proverbs 13:22 says: the wealth of the sinners is stored of for the righteous. Eclessiastes 2:26 states: to the sinner He gives the work of gathering and collecting, that He may give to him who is good before God.

How will God do it? We may not know, and we may not understand. But certain situations will definitely arise and happen in order for this word to come alive and happen. Such as what happened with the downfall of US economy in 2008. And as former Senator and Presidential aspirant John McCain once said: "This foundation of our economy, the American worker, is strong but it has been put at risk by the greed and mismanagement of Wall Street and Washington."

God is shaking the heavens and the earth in order to put things in place in accordance with His purposes and plans. The greedy are now being shaken and exposed. The wealth is now slowly being readied to be distributed to the proper hands.

But can God trust us to be the stewards of His wealth? Are we ready?

Excuse Letter

First Gentleman Mike Arroyo has once again 'excused' himself from going to the Senate hearing concerning another controversy linking him to an 'anomalous' construction company, the E.C. de Luna Construction Corporation, blacklisted by the World Bank due to corruption charges.

Whether he is fit to testify in the senate on Thursday (Feb 12) will be determined by his doctors at the St. Luke's Medical Center where he is undergoing a regular check-up.

FG's spokesperson says FG Mike is physically stable and well enough to play golf; but the latest news on early Thursday morning states that he would not come to the Senate to testify but instead send his lawyer Ruy Rondain to represent him (dahil baka nga naman mapagod).

We never know, sabi nga eh, life's full of surprises.

Or; bigla-bigla, baka ang mangyari eh, 'Oo, totoong me koneksiyon si E.C. de Luna, pero hindi si FG, kundi si Jose Pidal, este, si Iggy.

Lalo nang gumulo.

The Gentleman

Wikipedia illustrates "Gentleman" as:
...."gentleman" signifies a man with an income derived from property, a legacy or some other source, and was thus independently wealthy and did not need to work.
Ay ang saya! patok na patok! Mismo!
Ping Lacson.
Eh, what else is new?!!!!
Let's look at the parallelisms.
Here's the link on gma's special report)

Catch Me If You Can

Now Showing

Chance of a Lifetime

President Arroyo made a sudden side trip from Bahrain to Washington last Feb 5, 2009, to attend the United States National Prayer Breakfast (and possibly to get the chance to finally, finally, finally meet US President Barack Obama).

But the chance never happened.

Neal Cruz, in his Inquirer column, describes Arroyo's move to seemingly chase Obama as Pathetic.

Must have been better if Arroyo attends a local prayer meeting together with Cory, Erap, Ramos, Villanueva, Velarde, Rosales, De Venecia, Roxas, Lozada, Lacson, Mike Arroyo, Tindero, Jocjoc, Villar, etc.

Wouldn't that be a sight?

(But of course, not to mention, to disallow Sec Dureza to lead the prayer).

To conclude, Neal Cruz states,

"Don’t pretend to be what you are not. Accept what you are but try to be better."

Amen.

Phelps' Pipe

Superman doesn't exist.

Of course, I'd like to focus more on blogging about what's happening in our country. But there are just particular news that will captivate people's interest. Just like this one.....

Ever seen and heard the legendary 8-gold olympic 2008 medalist Michael Phelps marijuana scandal?

Barely 6 months after he was hailed as one of the best, if not the best Olympian ever to plunge into the Olympic Swimming Pool, a picture showing Michael Phelps inhaling from a marijuana pipe has circulated in the Internet.

6 months ago, we hear and read all sorts of praise and glory for this young man who beat olympic records at the recent Olympics 2008 held in China. Phelps was somehow dubbed as 'Superman', and a lot of people are asking, 'Are you human?'

A Handful of Sports, thus states,

++++++++++++++++++++
"Happen to see this Michael Phelps guy in the pool lately? Well, apparently he's all sorts of phenomenal or something. Eight medals? Yeah, it's official. He's the best swimming product in the world, and out of Baltimore, ever.

The fact that Phelps defied expectations – in all seriousness, who expected the guy to win all eight medals? - and actually did in Beijing what many were prognosticating that he wouldn't do is something extraordinary.

There is no doubt that Michael Phelps has had one of the best individual performances in an Olympics ever. There may never be – I doubt that – another one like it.

Really. There may never be another one like it.
++++++++++++++++++++

About 6 months later, however, tides of events change for Phelps as the controversial photo has circulated the web.

As a result, US Swimming authorities this February has issued a 3-month suspension for him, including his financial supports.

the news states:

“This is not a situation where any anti-doping rule was violated, but we decided to send a strong message to Michael because he disappointed so many people, particularly the hundreds of thousands of USA Swimming member kids who look up to him as a role model and a hero,” the Colorado-based federation said in a statement.

Phelps has acknowledged “regrettable” behavior and “bad judgment.” He didn’t dispute the authenticity of the photo, reportedly taken at a house party while Phelps was visiting Columbia, S.C., in November during an extended break from training.

We can never tell, really. There are no perfect individuals after all.

Superman doesn't exist.

Struggling

Pitong buwan.

I have been doing this venture hoping to conquer something new. But seems, as it is, to no avail.

Pitong buwan.
